Artist's Description

Yomegashima is a small, picturesque island off the coast of Matsue, in Lake Shinji, Shimane Prefecture, Japan.

It is known for its peaceful and scenic atmosphere. The island is most notable for its striking Shinto Torii gate, which stands as a symbol of protection at the entrance to the island.

The view of the torii gate from the nearby shoreline is a stunning sight, and the black and white photo of the scene enhances the island's surreal atmosphere.

When I took this image, a mighty wind was blowing, so I had to extend the long exposure for many minutes longer than usual.

"Study II" is a shot where I used a more powerful zoom; "Study I" instead has a broader framing of the island.

Year 2010. The photo is part of "Ukiyo, the Floating World" personal project.

About Stefano Orazzini

Stefano Orazzini

I am an award-winning photographer based in Italy, featured on all major media channels such as National Geographic, The Times, Huffington Post, The Telegraph, Lonely Planet, and more. I still believe that the ultimate goal of photography is to be PRINTED. This is why I chose Fine Art photography. Because it gives substance to what I do. When a photograph is printed as artwork to hang on a wall, it becomes a memory you can touch, providing a more profound emotion.
